The Langlee E2 is designed to survive a 100-year wave of 15 meters and maximum Hs = 7.5 meters, which are typical specifications for likely offshore sites. Simulations confirm the robustness of the Langlee design with regard to factors such as the forces generated under a wide range of wave conditions, anchor system forces, stability, and fatigue analyses.
The structural steel framework is based on steel pipe designs that have a long-standing track record in the offshore construction industry and for which certified subcontractors are available in local markets worldwide.
Unique advantages
Wide areas of application: The Langlee E2 wave power system is designed for deployment in areas with moderate wave conditions.
Greater efficiency: Converts a greater proportion of wave energy than competing concepts.
Ideal for offshore windfarm sites: The Langlee E2 is optimized for 2-6 meter seas (significant wave height, Hs = 2-6 meters) and water depths of 50-150 meters. Power transmission infrastructure and site approval costs can be shared with new or existing offshore windfarms.
Mooring
The mooring is based on standard mooring systems used for ships and offshore-industry facilities.
Wave direction
Langlee wave power systems are permanently moored to align with a site's predominant wave direction. Energy capture from waves arriving at a 30° angle is reduced by only 10%, compared waves arriving head-on. High efficiency is maintained throughout an aperture of 60 degrees.
